About the role
The primary focus of the MS Power BI Data Scientist position in the ECIS program, is to create and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards, handle ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and ensure data is consistent, reliable, and accessible to stakeholders. The individual in this role will also play a key role in improving the overall data experience within the ECIS program by focusing on data integrity, user design, and communication of insights.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with ECIS program stakeholders across departments to understand their data needs and the specific requirements for reports and dashboards.
- Translate program requirements into data models and reporting solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and priorities.
- Lead discussions and discovery sessions with stakeholders to refine data needs and adjust deliverables as required.
- Power BI Report & Dashboard Development
- Design and build visually impactful Power BI reports and dashboards that provide meaningful ECIS program insights and enable stakeholders to make data-driven decisions.
- Ensure that all reports and dashboards are developed with a strong focus on program goals, data integrity, maintaining accuracy and reliability throughout the data pipeline.
- Prioritize the user experience in report and dashboard design, ensuring that all visualizations are intuitive, easy to interpret, and meet the needs of the intended users.
- Develop and maintain a program design guide for consistent reporting, ensuring uniformity in style, layout, and presentation across all dashboards and visualizations.
- Data Analysis & Insight Communication
- Analyze large and complex data sets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that are valuable to the business.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to program members based on data analysis, helping them make informed, data-driven decisions.
- Present findings and insights in a clear, compelling, and understandable manner, tailoring communication to different audiences, from operational teams to senior management.
- ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and Data Integration
- Manage the ETL processes using SQL, Power Query, Power BI, and API connections to consolidate data from multiple sources into a central data model for analysis and reporting.
- Ensure data is properly cleaned, transformed, and integrated before being used in reports and dashboards.
- Continuously monitor and improve the ETL pipeline to ensure data is accurate, timely, and meets business requirements.
- Program Collaboration
- Work closely with ECIS program members and CMS employees, to ensure data flows smoothly and reporting solutions meet program needs.
- Support program users by troubleshooting data issues, answering queries, and offering training on how to use reports and dashboards effectively.
- Collaborate on initiatives related to improving the overall ECIS program, data strategy, sharing insights, and refining reporting practices.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- Requires proficient knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, demonstrated through practical, hands-on experience in a professional setting.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or higher security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Skills
- Expert-level knowledge with Power BI, including Power Query, DAX, and the creation of custom visualizations.
- Familiarity with SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and transformation.
- Ability to learn to create and maintaining ETL pipelines using Power BI and other tools.
- Experience with API connections and integrating data from multiple sources such as SCCM, Druva, Aternity, ServiceNow, JAMF, etc.
- ECIS Program Acumen & Analytical Skills
- Strong ability to interpret data and communicate meaningful insights to Leidos program members and CMS stakeholders.
- Experience in translating business requirements into technical solutions that drive decision-making.
- Strong focus on the success of the ECIS program through data integrity, to ensure accurate and consistent reporting.
