About the role

The Impact You'll Make

Are you driven to create impactful solutions for sustainability in one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors? As demand for cloud computing and AI-driven services accelerates, data centers face unprecedented pressure to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions through advanced automation

Danfoss is seeking a Lead Engineer, Customer Control Development – Data Centers, to join our Application Control Development team. Reporting to the Director of Application Software, you’ll play a key part in designing and developing innovative system-level control applications that support the decarbonization and optimization of thermal infrastructure in data centers and industrial environments. Success will be measured by your contributions to effective, scalable control solutions and by strong collaboration across internal and external stakeholders.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your main tasks will include:
•    Serve as a system control architect, designing and optimizing control strategies for thermal management systems in data centers and industrial applications.
•    Creating and building modular control systems to ensure accurate and dependable operation of equipment such as chillers and heat pumps.
•    Working on integrating control solutions with cloud platforms to enable features like remote monitoring and predictive maintenance.
•    Developing, testing, and refining control algorithms through simulation and field validation, collaborating with customers and OEMs.
•    Evaluating system data to spot opportunities for improving energy use and operational efficiency.
•    Engaging in thorough code and design evaluations to uphold software quality and performance standards.
•    Keeping updated with new developments in thermal control technologies and industry trends.
•    Partnering with diverse teams to meet technical specifications, sustainability goals, and business objectives

You will be mainly accountable for:

•    Taking ownership of system architecture to deliver scalable, modular, and energy-efficient control solutions to customers.
•    Overseeing the lifecycle of control algorithm development and its optimization through simulation and real-world testing.
•    Ensuring smooth integration of control systems with cloud services for ongoing remote system enhancements.
•    Driving collaboration with stakeholders to align control solutions with customer needs.
•    Maintaining rigorous software quality by leading code and design reviews and enforcing best practices.

What We're Looking For

 Required Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
•    Experience in designing and implementing control systems for thermal management applications (e.g., HVAC, cooling, or industrial processes).
•    Practical experience with real-time control platforms.
•    Proficiency with Model-Based Design using MATLAB/Simulink.
•    Hands-on experience validating and troubleshooting control systems through both simulation and field testing

Preferred qualifications:

•    Experience in integrating control solutions with cloud-based monitoring and optimization platforms.
•    Practical background in designing and deploying control algorithms on programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
•    Background in data center-specific thermal or energy management is an advantage
•    Good understanding of dynamical systems and control theory.
•    Experience with cloud-based services, remote monitoring, or predictive maintenance in an industrial context.
•    Exposure to multi-site, multinational project environments.

Job Criteria
•    Advanced analytical and systematic problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret simulation and field test results.
•    Ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary, multicultural teams.
•    Good communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
•    Proactive, self-driven approach with the flexibility to adapt in a dynamic work environment.
•    Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
•    Comfortable with hybrid or flexible work arrangements.
•    Ability to lead technical discussions and build consensus among diverse stakeholders.
•    Occasional onsite presence at data centers, customer locations, or test facilities for field testing and system verification
