About the Position:

We seek motivated and professional individuals for multiple Driver License Examiner vacancies in Bangor, Portland, the surrounding areas, Lewiston, Kennebunk, and Augusta.

As a Driver License Examiner, you will play a vital role in ensuring public safety by administering driving skills exams, evaluating knowledge of traffic laws, and verifying eligibility for licensure. This position requires excellent customer service, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a statewide team. This active role requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and statewide travel.

After completing qualification training, examiners are provided with a state vehicle for official travel, uniforms, and an annual uniform maintenance allowance.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle evaluations and administer driving skills tests for Class A, B, and C vehicles, motorcycles, and school buses, as well as special exams for applicants with physical challenges.
  • Administer and score written and oral exams on Maine traffic laws and explain results to applicants.
  • Administer vision screenings to assess applicants' eligibility.
  • Clearly explain relevant laws, policies, and procedures to license applicants.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and provide accurate, helpful information.
  • Use electronic tablets and desktop software to maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs. of supplies for distances of up to 200 feet, including stairs.
