The Opportunity

WSDOT is seeking a skilled and motivated Transportation Engineer 3 to join our team in Wenatchee, WA. Working under the direction of a Project Engineer, you'll serve as the design project lead, guiding projects from pre-design through the successful delivery of final Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E). You'll coordinate with engineering consultants and multidisciplinary WSDOT teams to achieve key project design milestones, including 30%, 60%, and 90% design, up to the final PS&E delivery. In this role, you'll independently administer consultant contracts in accordance with state and federal requirements, oversee consultant performance, coordinate technical reviews of project deliverables, and communicate schedule, scope, budget, and risk impacts to project leadership. Your expertise and leadership will play a vital role in delivering transportation improvements that safely and efficiently serve the traveling public for years to come.

What to Expect

Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Transportation Engineer 3 will:

• Administer WSDOT projects designed by consultants in the Design phase by implementing and monitoring consultant agreements and task orders. 
• Coordinate with all pertinent WSDOT support groups and offices, local agencies, tribes, and other interested parties to establish and manage project deliverables, roles and responsibilities, deadlines, and project constraints. 
• Draft agreements in close coordination with design consultants to accurately convey the scope of work including budget, deliverables, schedule and assumptions.
• Lead technical reviews of engineering-related elements for agreements, supplements, and task orders. 
• Oversee preparation of reports, contract plans, specifications, and estimates.
• Coordinate the setup of consultant access to WSDOT database systems and verify that data, such as Estimates, and Special Provisions is entered and accurate.
• Oversee design consultants’ management of project development schedules.
• Direct the design of complex design projects and multiple small-scale design projects simultaneously through the design and plan preparation stages including roadway, environmental, right of way, access control, and specialized engineering features. 
• Oversee design engineering consultants in the design of complex design projects and multiple small-scale design projects simultaneously.
• Participate in meetings with engineering and other consultants, as well as state and local governmental and public agencies. 
• Independently monitor and evaluate the consultant's conformance to regulatory provisions of agreements and other issues of compliance.

Qualifications
