The primary responsibility as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is to provide each of your assigned residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) in memory care and assisted living facilities provide hands-on daily care to residents who need physical or cognitive support. They assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), manage behavioral symptoms, monitor health changes, and offer emotional companionship in a safe, resident-centered environment.
- Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, and toileting.
- Help residents safely get in and out of bed, chairs, and wheelchairs. Reposition immobile residents to prevent bedsores and guide residents during walks.
- Set up dining areas, serve meals, and assist residents with eating. Monitor food and fluid intake.
- Measure and record vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse) and track weight changes.
- Redirect and de-escalate residents experiencing anxiety, confusion, or agitation. Provide structured engagement, companionship, and a calm environment.
- Observe and document changes in a resident’s physical or mental condition and promptly report them to a supervising nurse.
- Provide continuous reality orientation (reminding residents of the day, time, and location) and cueing to help them accomplish daily tasks.
- Participate in ongoing memory-loss education, such as recognizing triggers for "sundowning" or aggressive behavior.
- Actively engage residents in recreational, therapeutic, and social activities designed to stimulate cognitive function
- May assist with other nursing tasks as delegated by the supervising nurse.
- Participate in staff meetings and continuing education.
- Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.
Requirements
- Experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Skilled Nursing, Memory Care Unit and or Assisted Living Facility.
- Licensed Certified Nursing Assistant in the State this position is held in.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain active CPR/First Aid Certification during employment.
- Experience in electronic medical records documentation.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Friendly, attentive, and professional demeanor with residents and guests.
