General Summary:
Join Us as an IT Project Manager II at Unum!Are you a strategic thinker who thrives on high-impact projects and cross-regional collaboration? At Unum, we’re looking for an IT Project Manager II who’s ready to join our Global Information Security Team.
Key Responsibilities:
Ownership of budget management, risk management, and vendor management.
Establish and evolve project management structures and frameworks.
Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Regular reporting to executive stakeholders.
Translate technical jargon into clear, business-relevant language.
Deliver ROI and KPI-driven updates and insights.
Communication & Reporting:
Develop and maintain dashboards and data analytics reports.
Adapt communication style and strategy based on audience.
Ensure clarity and alignment across technical and non-technical teams.
This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 3x times per week onsite at one of our campuses - Atlanta, GA, Portland, ME, Chattanooga, TN, Columbia, SC
Job Specifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent relevant work experience
- Has 4+ years of experience with a focus in finance, project management, systems, or IT is preferred
- Demonstrates understanding of Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
- Familiarity with enterprise-level global information security is a plus
- Has strong knowledge of logical data model/management
- Has strong understanding of Unum’s products and businesses
- Able to work effectively in a dynamic, rapidly changing business and technical environment
- Project management (PMP) certification is preferred
- Effectively uses technical project management tools
- Has strong initiative and ability to set stretch goals
- Able to negotiate effectively with business and IT partners on business requirements and timeframes on mid-size initiatives
- Able to rally support among peers and work effectively in challenging situations
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to balance the need to gather detail with the need to solve the problem
- Strong general management skills including:
- Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Strong facilitation and elicitation skills
- Strong consultative advisory skills
- Strong ability to effectively articulate difficult ideas and concepts through clear and concise verbal or written communication
- Strong ability to identify and apply different communication mediums based on content and audience at all levels (both internal and external to Unum) to achieve intended goal
- Has advanced PC skills (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.)

Project Management
- Delivers results for mid-size project initiatives within established timeframes and quality measures.
- Utilizes strong project management skills and Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies to manage assigned projects.
- Directs resources on assigned projects and ensures clarity of project roles and responsibilities.
- Identifies and manages communication with the project stakeholders.
- Consults with business leaders to translate a project idea into a defined project with goals, objectives and scope.
