Occupational Summary

 

The Academic Services Coordinator (ASC) is a member of the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) team responsible for designing, developing, and implementing academic activities in support of the program’s vision and mission. The ASC role reports to and provides strategic guidance to the MEM Administrative Manager. This position will work closely with MEM campus students, online students, and faculty. Primary responsibilities include planning, coordinating, and administering academic activities related to students, faculty, classes, program requirements for programs within the Master of Engineering Management umbrella including online, campus and certificate.

 

Work Performed

 

Strategic Initiatives – 20%

  • In partnership with MEM’s other ASC and Student Services Coordinator (SSC), ASC will expand practical application of "Professionalism and the Five Principles" in curricular and co-curricular settings, including assisting with a Professionalism Bootcamp for students to participate in before beginning the program, Community Building Times and other opportunities throughout the student’s journey through our program.

  • Strengthen curricular and co-curricular collaborations within MEM and among MEM, other academic and students support units in Pratt, and schools throughout Duke, such as the Fuqua School of Business.

  • Help maintain the MEM student resources website and oversee the MEM social media accounts.

  • May partner with the MEM Administrative Manager to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative research techniques; investigate trends and recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness, particularly around student experience.

Program Coordination Responsibilities – 40%

  • Partner with the Master’s Coordinators in MEM and within Enterprise Engineering in the development and implementing of procedures, processes, services and systems and jointly maintain a Master’s Coordinator’s Manual for processes and procedures

  • Support the process to submit course requests and changes each semester through CourseLeaf; attend monthly scheduling meetings hosted by the University Registrar’s Class Scheduling Team (both online and on-campus)

  • Lead the process to submit and assess course evaluations each semester using EvaluKit, manage course evaluation response feedback to faculty and program directors.

  • Liaise with Textbook Store and faculty members about course materials

  • Make operational and programmatic decisions that have a significant impact on the successful achievement of program strategies and objectives; develop, coordinate and advise staff regarding program policy.

  • Prepare and submit course requests to EFC and Registrar’s office for approval

  • Track accepted and rejected technical electives; update relevant constituencies regarding course offerings and faculty;

  • Monitor and manage the course class size, course enrollment and wait lists.

  • Work with other programs and schools at Duke and other University partnerships to establish procedures for registering for courses and facilitating registration.

  • Collect, analyze and interpret MEM assessment data and learning outcomes in support of accreditation, reviews and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate public relations activities to include conceptualizing and writing newsletters, promotional material
