The Program in Visual Impairments – Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Senior Lecturer position will be split between teaching/supervision responsibilities and outreach activities in order to meet the requirements of state and federal O&M grant funding. Time allocated to teaching/supervision will depend upon the number of O&M students enrolled in field experience courses who will require placements and site visitations.
Primary goals: To support current students in the graduate licensure program in the Programs in Visual Impairments – Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Program in the Department of Teaching and Learning (T&L); to teach required courses for AERBVI Program Accreditation (TLISTEM 6520, 6521, 6510, 6511, & 6512); to provide support to current VI Program faculty with O&M-related field experiences (TLED 7189, 5191.05; to help alleviate the shortage of ACVREP Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) in Ohio and nationwide.
Responsibilities in this position will be:
Teaching classes required for the Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Program required for AERBVI Program Accreditation (Including, but not limited to, TLISTEM 6520, 6521, 6510, 6511, & 6512) Hold informational sessions with Teaching Learning and Educational Studies Academic and Graduate Student Services Consultation and collaboration with the OSU Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure (APL) to share information Interaction/meetings with O&M Placement sites (including, but not limited to, Ohio State School for the Blind, Ohio Educational Service Centers (ESC) Programs, Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Cleveland Sight Center, ENVISION Program, Camp Abilities, SUNY Brockport) to share information Interaction/meetings with Low Incidence Program Personnel from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Development (ODEW). Targeted site visits (agencies and schools with O&M Programming) to talk with teachers/students/staff. Attendance at Ohio Blind Rehabilitation related conferences and student contests. Periodic social media activities (Low Incidence Programming; O&M; Blind Rehabilitation-related pages) to publicize the program. Oversee, observe, supervising/evaluating O&M students enrolled in O&M Fieldwork Courses: TLED 7189, 5191.
