Overview

The Community Recreation Program Coordinator I - Aquatics Develops, plans, and implements programs, activities, and events, and assists with the operation of various aquatic facilities. As assigned may provide program instruction, pool surveillance, pool and facility maintenance, and office and administrative support such as customer service, program promotion, program registration and conducting financial transactions.

Essential Functions

1 Plans, develops, and implements aquatic programs and activities at assigned aquatic facilities.

2 Direct part time staff in the absence of supervisor and conduct inservice training for part time and seasonal staff.

3 Leads aquatic activities, demonstrates a variety of procedures and techniques, and instruct participants in the rules of various activities to ensure enjoyable and safe aquatic participation for adults and youth.

4 Enforces rules, regulations, policies, procedures and safety precautions of various aquatic facilities and programs to ensure patron safety and compliance with various laws and ordinances.

5 Responds to emergency situations to ensure the safety of pool patrons and perform appropriate emergency and rescue techniques when necessary including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid in an effective manner to ensure proper crisis management.

6 Assists with community and aquatic special events, including supervising special events to ensure such activities proceed in a safe manner.

7 Compiles and maintains records such as attendance and registration reports, facility inspections, water quality records, program evaluations and incident reports.

8 Conducts program registration and financial transactions in accordance with department procedures.

9 Communicates with the general public and provide customer service regarding aquatic programs and answer questions that might arise about services provided.

10 Promotes programs and activities to the public by engaging with the community at meetings and promotional events.

11 Inspects pool equipment for safety and perform various maintenance activities to assist with the safe operation of aquatic facilities.

12 Serves on department-wide task forces or committees as assigned.

13 Performs other duties as assigned to support division activities.

Knowledge and Skills

1 Knowledge of aquatic facility operations, maintenance, pool filtration and sanitation methods.

2 Knowledge of Risk Management procedures, Emergency Action Plans and safety programs pertaining to aquatic facilities.

3 Skill of developing, planning and conducting aquatic programs.

4 Skills in Microsoft Windows, including Excel and PowerPoint.

5 Ability to provide exemplary customer service

6 Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

7 Ability to supervise, lead, direct, evaluate, coach, and train

8 Proficiency in recreation management software such as RecTrac and Meet Manager

9 Demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping

10 Ability to work with diverse populations

11 Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.

12 Ability to gather and analyze information for interpretation and resolution.

13 Ability to make good sound professional judgment decisions and act accordingly.

14 Ability to travel to various DISD natatorium locations to provide programs.

Experience

One (1) year of experience in the development, organization and operation of a aquatics program or public swimming pool facility.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a Texas class C driver’s license.

Must acquire the following certifications within six months of hire:

Lifeguard Instructor Certification

First Aid/CPR for the Professional Rescuer

Water Safety Instructor Certification

Swim Coaches Certification

Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification
