Job Summary

 

The primary responsibility is leading the finance function related to APG’s Transportation Groups and to companies’ transportation operations. This will include overseeing transportation financial reporting, analyzing freight economics, and leading APG capital investment in over-the-road assets. This role will interact with multiple business units under Oldcastle APG and will work closely with senior management of APG.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead finance function for APG’s Transportation Groups
  • Prepare Transport Groups Monthly P&L reporting and review of financial statement and finance KPI’s
  • Reporting and analysis on third party transportation spend across all modes
  • Assist and organize transport RFPs for third party transportation
  • Support Regional Transportation Managers on P&L reviews/analysis and questions
  • Coordinate with regional VPs of finance to update Transport Group allocations as part of budget process
  • Develop and implement a process to improve accuracy of fleet costing for Transportation Groups and Opco’s
  • Forecast capital needs for fleet including expansionary, replacement (life cycle), and divestiture
  • Plan and execute capital investment for all APG company fleet assets (Masonry and Hardscapes, National Group, Barrette Outdoor)
  • Validate capacity plans of (Transportation Groups and operating companies) for inbound and outbound power units, specialized equipment, and trailers
  • Standardize capex process and support (including complete in many cases) the capex submissions
  • Review business cases for investment and divestiture of assets with Transportation Group and Operating companies
  • Ensure compliance with Procurement RFP awards and standardized specifications
  • Understand CARB requirements and plan vehicle replacements to meet emissions regulations
  • Assess driver wage economics including benchmarking to market/peers and activity pay analysis
  • Oversee safety bonus calculations and disbursements for reasonableness and accuracy
  • Reporting on Transportation savings initiatives on regular cadence (monthly, quarterly, yearly)
  • Third party transportation analysis across all modes
  • Supervise employees who perform financial reporting, accounting, forecasting, and budgeting duties
  • Provide training and development for supporting staff and any other needs identified in the department

 

Requirements

 

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
  • CPA or MBA preferred but not required
  • 5+ years of relevant financial management experience
  • Must demonstrate ability to utilize multiple programs to analyze data and financials including but not limited to MS Office Programs, Tableau, other financial reporting programs
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions
  • The ability to lead effective teams and develop direct reports
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Business acumen in private fleet and manufacturing
  • Strong action orientation and drive for results
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and to work with teams as both a leader and a participant
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
