SUMMARY

The Activities and Outdoor School Manager provides leadership and vision for the Challenge Course and Adventure activities as well as the Outdoor Education program. This role involves program development, staff management, training, and ensuring safety standards while delivering high-quality adventure experiences and outdoor education. The position also oversees the coordination of outdoor activities, equipment maintenance, and risk management. The Manager will work closely with various departments to enhance guest experiences, promote environmental stewardship, and contribute to the broader ministry goals of Black Diamond Camp as well as partnership with Warm Beach Camp. Regular attendance, teamwork, and adherence to safety procedures are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development and Implementation

1. Challenge Course & Adventure Activities: Oversee the development and execution of Challenge Course and recreational adventure programs, ensuring they meet the needs of guest groups and align with the Camp’s mission. Maintain up-to-date Challenge Course and adventure equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and risk management standards. 
2. Outdoor Education Programs: Collaborate with Camp leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate Outdoor Education programs for Black Diamond Camp. Work with schools and other groups to develop tailored program schedules, goals, and activities. 

Staffing and Supervision

1. Provide leadership, training, and ongoing spiritual, personal, and professional development for seasonal and year-round staff, interns, and volunteers. Hire, train, schedule, and supervise staff in both Outdoor Education and Challenge Course activities, ensuring they meet safety standards and program goals. Ensure staff members are equipped with necessary certifications (e.g., Challenge Course, CPR/First Aid). Foster a supportive, Christ-centered environment for staff and guests. 

Risk Management and Safety

1. Ensure all Outdoor Education and Challenge Course activities comply with safety standards, including but not limited to the Warm Beach Camp Ministries Safety Plan. 
2. Oversee risk management policies and procedures for both educational and adventure programs. 
3. Maintain certifications, conduct staff safety training, and implement safety protocols for all outdoor activities. 
4. Supervise the proper use of equipment and ensure it is maintained in accordance with safety regulations.

Other Responsibilities

1. Plan, budget, and oversee the purchase and maintenance of equipment for both Outdoor Education and Challenge Course activities. 
2. Assist with promotional efforts for Outdoor Education and Challenge Course programs, including marketing, communication, and guest relations. 
3. Cross-train and assist in other areas of the ministry as needed, contributing to the overall success of Warm Beach Camp and Black Diamond Camp. 
4. Participate in regular meetings with staff, providing updates on program progress and departmental needs. 
5. Adhere to all administrative processes related to finance, human resources and risk management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises up to 35 employees (seasonal, hourly and year-round staff) across the Outdoor Education and Challenge Course departments. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
