The Department of Mental Health, Area Residential Program is seeking an experienced Direct Care Worker with knowledge of the requirements of providing 24/7 residential care in a group living environment.  This individual should be Certified and highly skilled in Medication Administration and under the supervision of the MAP Director, will act as MAP Specialist for the (2nd/3rd) Shift assuring that DPH and DMH policies for a MAP Certified Program are implemented and followed across all work sites on the shift assigned.  Demonstrating strong professional skills, this individual will not only assure that individuals served receive needed medical and psychiatric care and that the appropriate implementation and documenting of medication administration is entered consistent with MAP policies, this person will also assure that staff at each program site follows all MAP requirements. Along with their peers, this individual will also function as a MHW III within the residential site assigned and across the program as needed assuring the implementation of Individual Action Plans; acts as advocate for assigned persons served, completes all necessary documentation and record keeping, maintaining a Person Centered atmosphere and professional performance, has knowledge of DMH Residential regulations and program procedures, supervises other assigned staff on shift, and assures that information is shared as needed between shifts, among work sites, with the Shift Supervisor, and performs related work as required

Please Note:  The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week on the 3rd shift from 11:00 PM- 7:00 AM.  The days off will be Thursday and Friday. The primary work location will be on the grounds of Taunton State Hospital, but will also provide coverage in Lakeville MA.

Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):

  • Assist in the development and implementation of person served Community Service Plans through direct observation of the person served, full knowledge of the person served history, and engagement with the person served in order to assist them in learning the necessary skills to live successfully in the community.
  • Works as primary advocate by providing direct one to one contact with assigned person served to assist them in all areas and to aid them in the implementation of their Community Service Plan.
  • Appropriate record keeping to ensure documentation in the EMR and paper record of person served progress and to ensure compliance with existing DMH regulations and program procedures.
  • Adheres to all MAP policies and procedures to ensure that medication is administered safely to Persons Served.
  • Knowledge of all DMH regulations and program procedures by reading the Program and Agency manuals and receiving supervision by the program manager or designee to ensure compliance and quality person served care.
  • Maintain a trauma informed, person centered atmosphere while engaging Persons Served in their rehabilitation and recovery.
  • Assist Persons served in development of independent living skills, such as personal hygiene, cooking, housekeeping, clothing maintenance and nutrition by utilizing motivational interviewing skills and counseling techniques, role modeling and/or other individualized or group best practices to promote person served growth.
  • Engage persons, individually and/or in group, in the development of meaningful activities, such as recreational, educational, health and fitness activities within the program and the community to foster an improved quality of life.
  • Promote emotional growth and mental stability by assisting with use of WRAP, Safety and Crisis Plans to promote independence in managing crises.  Arrange for Crisis Intervention, after consultation with supervisor, when needed.
