Description
The Kentucky Office of Attorney General, Office of Administrative Hearings is responsible for conducting
administrative hearings regarding issues arising from actions taken by state government cabinets, agencies,
commissions, boards, and corporations. Our Office includes a close-knit unit of staff dedicated to the
provision of impartial hearings.
The office is organized into three Divisions. The General Government Division is primarily tasked with conducting hearings for various state agencies, which encompasses a wide range of subject matters. The Family and Children Health Services Division, which were formerly part of the Cabinet for Health and Human services, are responsible for conducting hearings on numerous appealable issues arising from cabinet programs.
The Office of Administrative Hearings is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual interested in public service, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that citizens receive due process in administrative hearings.
A successful candidate will:

A successful candidate will:
- Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Be a licensed attorney admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association.
- Be KRS 13B Hearing Officer certified or willing to obtain KRS 13B certification upon hiring.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic and self-motivation.
- Possess excellent listening skills.
- Uphold a high standard of professionalism and competence as a hearing officer.
- Exhibit strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Be able to independently manage a full docket and oversee administrative hearing cases from initiation to conclusion.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have two years experience as a licensed attorney in the practice of law.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
A Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) will substitute for one year of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must be admitted to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky OR comply with Kentucky Supreme Court Rule (SCR) 2.111 (limited certification of admission to practice), SCR 2.112 (attorney participants in defender or legal services programs), SCR 2.117 (practice pending admission). Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Duties are performed primarily in both office and courtroom settings. Travel is required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
