Purpose
The Opioid Use Disorder Clinical Champion is a 0.1 FTE (4 hours per week) administrative position for a medical provider. This position works at the direction of and in support to the Chief Health Officer (CHO) in collaboration with Behavioral Health Services (PMHNP Program supervisor and OUD Behavioral Health Care Manager). This position’s goal is to provide mentorship and support to staff in order to strengthen opioid use disorder treatment services at Neighborcare Health (NCH). This includes offering individual training and shadowing opportunities for providers and registered nurses, as well as clinic and organization-wide education on topics surrounding opioid and other substance use disorders. This position serves as a representative for Neighborcare Health across partnerships with local governmental and private organizations and acts as a liaison between Neighborcare Health administrators, clinics, and other interdisciplinary teams internally.
In this position you will:
- Collaborate with patients, clients, staff, and community partners to identify and address the ways that systemic racism and other forms of compounding bias are root causes of disparities in clinical/mental health and homelessness in Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color and other communities that have experienced historical and structural oppression.
- Train and support MDs/DOs/ARNPs/PAs in the care of patients with opioid use disorder and in actively prescribing this medication to appropriate patients.
- Train and support registered nurses on medications for opioid use disorder, and conducting follow-up visits using the buprenorphine authorization protocols
- Act as a case consultant by responding to questions from clinical staff via Epic and email on opioid use disorder-related topics.
- Provide shadowing opportunities to providers interested in developing their opioid use disorder management skills.
- Act as Neighborcare Health’s representative at inter-organizational meetings with Public Health King County and Washington Recovery Helpline. Respond to opioid use disorder partnership inquiries from outside organizations.
- Manage Neighborcare Health’s resources including buprenorphine provider listserv, substance use disorders intranet page, and public-facing information on Washington Recovery Helpline website.
- Participate in Substance Use Disorder steering committee meetings and other internal NCH initiatives related to substance use disorders
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Required for this job:
- Extensive experience in the management of opioid use disorder, rooted in current evidence-based practice
- Experience, comfort and sensitivity to recognizing and addressing patients with complex needs related to social determinants of health
- Experienced with the practice and approach of harm reduction
- Ability to translate research and clinical guidelines in relevant training for clinical staff
- Ability to organize issues and conduct problem solving
- Ability to prioritize tasks and follow through
- Self-motivation and ability to work independently
- Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
Required qualifications:
- Degree in appropriate specialty and Board Certification in specialty
- Active, unencumbered Washington License for practice and board certification Active DEA
- Minimum 1 year of clinical practice, including the treatment of opioid use disorder
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience and comfort in substance use disorder management such as methamphetamine use disorder
- At least 3 years of clinical practice
- Active, current clinical practice in primary care (0.5 FTE minimum preferred)
