PURPOSE

The Associate will have the unique opportunity to develop dual scholarship in research and teaching. The Associate will conduct and publish cutting-edge research in aquatic/marine ecology, climate processes or bioremediation, develop and deliver high-quality teaching in Life Sciences, and support and promote the research and academic missions of the department in general. This is a three-year full-time position.

DESCRIPTION

Functional Area 1:  Research

Percent Effort: 62%

Job Duties

  • Assist the development of a new research group in aquatic/marine sciences.

  • Conduct and publish scholarly research on aquatic/marine sciences.

  • Support and promote research mission of Life Sciences in general.

Functional Area 2:  Teaching

Percent Effort: 33%

Job Duties

  • Develop and deliver teaching materials that suit Life Sciences curriculum.

  • Support and promote academic missions of Life Sciences in general.

Functional Area 3:  Other

Percent Effort: 5%

Job Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD or equivalent in Oceanography, Aquatic Ecology, Marine Sciences or a similar discipline.

  • Research experience in field and laboratory studies on marine/aquatic ecology, climate processes, bioremediation or related areas of research. Evidence of experience may include peer-reviewed journal publications or extramural research funding.

  • Knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining field and lab equipment related to marine/aquatic ecology, climate processes bioremediation or related areas of research.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in coordinating/ managing research projects.

  • Teaching experience in a university setting.

  • Knowledge of local environments (Corpus Christi, Texas).

  • Knowledge of modern teaching and learning techniques.

  • Evidence of ability to work and collaborate effectively within a community.

SALARY: Approx. $4,166.67 Monthly (Approx. $50,000 annually)
