About the role

Overview of Position

The Accounting Director role is primarily responsible for all areas relating to Lifestyle segment client accounting, reporting and controls.  This position will be responsible for maintaining relationships with the business and clients, setting priorities to meet the needs of both the business and the finance department.  The Accounting Director supervises staff and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including overseeing the preparation of client cession statements, collateral activities and contract enforcement.  The Accounting Director will have contact with senior leaders and client management which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.

What will be my responsibilities for this position?

  • Perform Lifestyle segment contract reviews and ensure accurate set up of reinsurance contracts by product/client within systems/processes

  • SOX reinsurance controls, internal and external audit requirements

  • Own prioritization of projects related to auto reinsurance systems and client reporting.

  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close for both financial and client reporting

  • Handle questions/escalations from the business as it relates to clients

  • Work with business partners on performance metrics

  • Able to gather relevant data points to present to management to aid in decision making/reporting

  • Collaborates with the other finance department directors to support overall department goals and objectives

  • Managing and overseeing the daily operations of the financial reporting department

  • Assign projects and direct staff to ensure compliance and accuracy

  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions

  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff

  • Lead special projects and workflow process improvements

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential

Direct reports

  • Responsible for the work of 2 managers

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent experience

  • 10+ prior supervisory experience in reinsurance/client reporting with focus on operational excellence

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or MBA

  • Lean/Six Sigma

  • Able to thrive in a fast pace environment

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills required

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, etc.

  • Able to adapt to a flexible work environment

  • Team player – willing to go outside defined roles and responsibilities for the benefit of the broader team

Pay Range:

$99,200.00 - $165,600.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
