Position Overview:

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking an experienced and motivated candidate to serve as the Accountant for the Business Office at IYC Harrisburg. The incumbent in this position will perform professional accounting duties and reconcile financial reports and accounts along with overseeing and assisting with payroll and timekeeping functions for the facility. The ideal candidate for this position will be proficient in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and/or related systems and will possess previous accounting, payroll, timekeeping and/or bookkeeping experience along with knowledge of state and/or government accounting laws and regulations. Essential Functions:

  • Oversees payroll and timekeeping functions.
  • Verifies accuracy of vendor invoices to receiving reports.
  • Processes and submits documents for cash receipts.
  • Maintains and assigns personnel inventory numbers for personal services management system.
  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four (4) years of technical accounting experience.

 

*This title is included as an Upward Mobility Program certificate title.

Preferred Qualifications: (In Order of Significance):

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience as an accountant and/or bookkeeper.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of professional experience reconciling or auditing financial reports and/or accounts.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience performing payroll and/or timekeeping functions.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience working with state and/or government accounting laws and regulations.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience developing, reviewing, and/or maintaining spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel and/or a related program.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience performing acco
