Description
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for purchasing and inventory control of drugs and supplies, ensuring pharmacy supply chain is compliant with GPO and 340B Program rules under the supervision of the Sr Pharmacy Buyer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Compiles information and records to prepare purchase orders for procurement of drugs and supplies.
Maintain daily medication and supply orders from wholesaler.
Place specialty drug orders through outside vendors.
Coordinate medication procurement for local clinics, EMS, and fire departments.
Maintain national stockpile inventory.
Optimize medication inventory par levels in automated technology and static shelving to avoid stockouts and reduce waste.
Record necessary information for compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act.
Place controlled substances orders and maintain required documentation.
Submit new medications to IT for addition to the EHR to support CPOE.
Demonstrates the ability to operate automated inventory technology and information systems.
Performs quality assurance/improvement audits.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure established for department.
Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Must have current knowledge of safety regulations in the department and in the implementation of new policies and procedures.
Must have current knowledge of state procurement regulations, policies, and procedures.
Proficient knowledge of operating system software, desktop applications such as excel, power point, etc., interfaces, and pharmacy information system applications as they relate to the automated dispensing machines.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize/problem solve.
Effective communication skills.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standard hospital pharmacy environment. Working with chemotherapy and bio-hazardous agents. Working with public. Working weekends and shift rotations. May be required to work overtime and extended shifts during emergencies.
May be required to work within the confines of a prison, jail, or juvenile detention center.
Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED or equivalent years of education, experience and/or training.
Three (3) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
3 years of related experience in health system pharmacy.
