About the role

Summary:

Responsible for the surgical physician assistant program. Provides managerial responsibilities for practice operations and staff functions. Accountable for practice operations on a 24/7 basis. Assists surgeon with surgical procedures. Provides the highest level of pre and post-operative care under the direction of the supervising physician. Population served based on scope of services in the department.

Responsibilities:

1.Responsible for recruiting, hiring, developing and disciplining staff. Develops critical accountabilities and oversees Physician Assistant performance evaluations

2.Oversees the educational and developmental needs of the surgical physician assistant staff.

3.Evaluates staffing needs and ensures equitable use of resources. Maintains productivity measures.

4.Accountable for practice operations on a 24/7, 365 day schedule. Oversees all appropriate staffing and scheduling needs.

5.Ensures that environment of care and practice organization is conducive to promoting safe, effective and appropriate practice for patients and employees.

6.Maintains and updates Physician Assistant files in reference to licenses, certifications, CME's, etc

7.Assists the surgeon in the operating room, acting as first or second assistant during various phases of the procedure

8.Cleans, debrides and sutures minor lacerations. Cares for wounds including debridgement, I&Ds dressings, removal of drains and tubes, and suture removal.

9.Performs and records complete physical examinations

10.Makes daily rounds independently or with surgical team on patients with a variety of surgical conditions and reports findings to the surgeon. Maintains patient care, evaluates changes in patient status, writes orders, obtains consultations.

11.Interprets lab values and x-rays with assistance of physicians as necessary. Gives special instructions to patients prior to discharge

12.Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

13.Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values.

14.Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

15.Performs other duties as required.

Other Information:

Education and Experience Requirements:

�This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor�s Degree and minimum of five years job-related experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

�Previous surgical PA experience, including pre and post op care and OR assist

License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:

�Registration: CT CSR Certification: Board certified PA License: State of CT license, DEA CT License

�ACLS, BLS certification required

    Working Conditions:

    Manual: Little or no manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

    Occupational: Little or no potential for occupational risk

    Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force

    Physical Environment: Generally pleasant working conditions
