Description

The Simpson Online Program seeks an Academic Advisor. Responsibilities will include providing academic advising services for the Simpson College Online students. Assist the Associate Dean in the development of student services for prospective and current students.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Advise prospective and current Simpson Online students, coordinate academic course schedules, and provide instructional support including referrals to our academic support structures.

· Manage student files for all persons receiving advising services and data regarding degree planning and schedule building.

· Evaluate the needs for student support programs/services. Coordinate and evaluate the delivery of designated support programs/services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s preferred.
  • Experience advising and/or working with college students, preferable adult learners
  • The ability to clearly communicate both orally and in written form with excellent listening and persuasion skills with considerable tact.
  • Possess (or demonstrate the ability to acquire) a clear knowledge of the academic environment.
  • Willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Office products including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Ability to learn and navigate a student information system.
  • Customer service mindset.
  •  The ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to use data for decision making and to ensure accuracy in and timeliness in advising.
