Job Overview

The Mechanical Engineer - Powertrain will be responsible for making sure the designs, calculations, drawings and BOMs for the Powertrain are completed and released according to machine functional requirements.  The Role will also be responsible for assisting and supporting manufacturing with questions on prototype and pilot builds, assisting and supporting the field service team with commissioning prototype and pilot machines at customer sites, and provide solutions to field follow issues.  

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all mechanical aspects of the Mining Machine Powertrain, including sub-systems.
  • Work with vendors to ensure new designs meet specifications.
  • Utilize latest technical knowledge, modern analysis tools and techniques.
  • Guide & lead technical and non-technical personnel to technical solutions.
  • Checking the quality of other’s work.
  • Provide a critical voice in Product Design Reviews.
  • Support the integration and testing of Mining Equipment.
  • Acquire and implement new technology products related to Mobile Mining Equipment.
  • Conduct all appropriate calculations to support engineering designs.
  • Lead field failure investigations which directly impact customer experience.
  • Travel will be required to troubleshoot Mining Machine issues and support Manufacturing Facilities, Komatsu Proving Grounds, Vendors and Customers in the field.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.  5+ years of engineering experience is ideal.
  • Strong foundation in mobile equipment machine design.
  • Drivetrain design experience is highly preferred.
  • Product application principles and understanding of application requirements.
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal, written, technical, listening and presentation.
  • Excellent process and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications: Power Point, Excel and Word.
  • SolidWorks experience.

 

Other Desired Skills / Experience / Qualifications

  • Knowledgeable, self-directed, task completion with minimal guidance.
  • Manage multiple projects and prioritize to support project completion.
  • Creative problem-solving, process design, product application, design, and development.
  • Field experience with on-site Customer Implementation (installation / commissioning / troubleshooting / support).
  • Relationship building at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with transmissions, torque converters, air compressors, and their respective sub-systems. Diesel Engine Implementation experience.
  • Knowledge of CAN/J1939 is preferred.  Understanding of machine control systems and software is a plus.
