University Master Police Officer, Non-Exempt

Requirements

The University Master Police Officer performs law enforcement functions on University property necessary to protect the life, well-being, and property of students, faculty, staff, visitors, dignitaries, and others through policing, patrol, event security, investigation, understand access control systems, circulation and safety systems, effect arrests, and emergency response as outlined in General Orders and Special Orders, as directed by superior officers, and as proscribed in the Consortium of Universities Law Enforcement Academy (or equivalent) and other departmental trainings. Supporting the University community by providing information and assistance, additional duties include, but are not limited to:

• Accurately and thoroughly prepares incident reports, safeguarding information and evidence to ensure successful follow up and resolution.

• Initiate preliminary investigations of criminal and traffic incidents as necessary, conducting traffic enforcement and providing first responder aid when required.

• Support and provide assistance to persons who have been victims of crime, attending court for case review and testimony whenever necessary, regardless of other commitments. 

• In the absence of a Police Sergeant, serve as Watch Commander for shifts, overseeing FTO and other related trainings.

• As part of the community-oriented policing program, regularly gather and report intelligence related to public safety and crime prevention, conducting crime risk analysis within the campus assigned area. 

• Identify and analyze recurring community problems and work to identify responses to them, preparing and coordinating tasks to be accomplished within the campus assigned area.

• Prepare evaluation reports describing task accomplishment related to community policing goals and objectives. 

• Conduct speaking presentations on topics, which have been identified through surveys and analysis without supervision. 

• In furtherance of the university's higher education objectives, become well acquainted with members of the University community.

• Monitor all burglar/security alarms, cameras and fire alarms, tracking University Police activities at Communications Center and performing other duties as assigned.

Work Interactions

Directly responsible to the Police Sergeant for fulfilling duties assigned, performing patrol functions, and specialized assignments according to all special and general orders in the protection of life and property at Georgetown University.  This person works independently with general supervision.  The incumbent works with other Police Officers, Communication Officers and Specialists, Security Officers, and Student Guards. This position is considered as essential under the University Personnel policy guidelines and therefore is subject to be on call when necessary.  Must be willing to work extended, odd, or off hours to achieve the expectations of the Department. This may include rotating tours of duty (day shifts, evening shifts, overnight shifts) with fluctuating days off, according to departmental needs.

Requirements and Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent); College Degree Preferred

• At least 3 years, preferably more, of security related / law enforcement / military experience and community policing

• An equivalent combination of training, education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of above requirements

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 21 years of age

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no violations in the last three years and able to pass Georgetown University driver’s certification
