Sr. Optical System Engineer

About the role
<p>Currently there is an opportunity for an experienced Sr. Systems Engineer to join the Nokia Optical Networks Business Unit. This role requires someone with expertise in WDM/OTN and Layer 2 packet features in optical transport systems and can specify requirements (functional and user-interface) for use by development, test, and customer documentation groups, both independently and in collaboration with other systems engineers.</p>
<p><strong>As a Sr Systems Engineer, you will:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Collaborate with Product Line Managers (PLM) and development teams to guide feature introduction and ensure technical feasibility, while also meeting customer and business objective.</li>
<li>Define high-level and details system requirements for Layer 2 packet, WDM, and OTN features for the 1830 PSS product family.</li>
<li>Drive system features throughout the development life cycle including the review of architecture, design, test plans and customer documentation ensuring that the developed features are fully aligned with business objectives.</li>
<li>Author requirement documents for the development teams and be the primary source of information for customer documentation.</li>
<li>Respond to the feature definition / requirements related clarification questions from the development teams in a timely and effective manner.</li>
<li>Provide detailed feature communication (technical and non-technical) to teams outside of the WDM team for purposes of training of sales teams, product management teams, etc.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Your skills and experience</strong></p>
<p><strong>You have:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Excellent communication skills (English), both written and oral, and very good logical reasoning.</li>
<li>M.S. in Telecommunications/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Optics/Physics or related field and 5+ years experience in optical network specification, design, and/or development.</li>
<li>Experience with product development through conception, planning, architecture/partitioning, HW/SW development, test, and continuous improvement.</li>
<li>Knowledge of ITU/IEEE standards, with a deeper understanding of specifications related to Optical Transport Network (OTN) over WDM network, client mapping/multiplexing (G.709.x, G.798, IEEE802.3). Telemetry and performance monitoring.</li>
<li>Knowledge of IEEE 802.1, ITU-T, and MEF standards. Skills in Carrier Ethernet Services, MPLS-TP, Control Plane, OAM, Performance Monitoring, and protection switching.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>It would be nice if you also had:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Knowledge Data Communication Network (DCN) and routing protocols</li>
<li>Understanding, and experience working with, pluggable optical modules and their associated optical/electrical interfaces (e.g., QSFP, CFP).</li>
<li>DWDM and coherent technology experience</li>
<li>Knowledge of system management layers and YANG modelling.</li>
