About the role
The assistant director of student life presents the opportunity to coordinate and implement strategies and activities designed to enhance the overall educational experience and involvement of students through the development of a comprehensive student life program including student programming, student leadership development, student governance, student organizations, service engagement, and recreation and wellness. The assistant director will work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to provide a student-centered environment that fosters intentional development through dynamic co-curricular programming and services, as an extension of the educational experience, to bolster campus traditions and pride, engage students with the College and community, support retention and completion, and facilitate enhanced student learning.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Promotes an environment and sense of college community that supports stu dent engagement, student learning, college pride, and student success.
- Engages in behaviors and conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, views; assist in the delivery of multicultural programming; develop student programming that promotes the personal growth of students by enhancing their understanding of their own and others culture, heritage and identities.
- Develops and maintain appropriate relationships with other college departments. Educate and advocate within the region and community about the mission and goals of Student Life. Build partnerships with faculty and staff and develop strategies to ensure that Student Life programs compliment the academic curriculum.
- Assists with the annual Student Life budget development process and monitors office budgets, as assigned.
- Assists with the development and utilization of a communication plan that produces regular, on-going, region-wide strategies to inform students and other college constituents about student life programs and services and opportunities for involvement including (but not limited to) a student life calendar of events highlighting college-wide, statewide, and community events, printed publications, on-line tools, and social media.
- Assists with monitoring, information updates, and approvals in IvyLife (student life management software).
- Assists with the on-going assessment of student life programs and services and tracks student involvement in organizations, student life sponsored trips, college-wide student events, and athletics and produces a semester end report.
- Provides administrative and financial and purchasing support to the student organizations.
- Supports advisor and student organizations officers training.
- Advises and support the Campus Activities Board (statewide or campus specific).
- Coordinates a vast array of cultural, social, and intellectual student programming and events throughout the academic year.
- Develop mentoring programming.
- Coordinate mandated annual Constitution Day programming.
- Student Leadership Development Responsibilities:
- Coordination of the statewide Student Leadership Academy (SLA) Program held each fall semester in accordance with the state-wide SLA structure and model.
- Coordinate and Promote student involvement in the annual state-wide Ivy Tech Student Leadership Conference.
Student Organizations Responsibilities:
- Guides and support of student organizations (honorary, professional, student media, and special interest).
- Facilitates the student organization establishment and registration process.
- Facilitates regular and on-going training for student organization advisors and officers.
- Maintains reliable listing of registered student organizations including membership.
- Advises student organizations regarding college policies and procedures associated with events, travel, and purchasing processes.
Service Engagement Responsibilities:
- Develops and fosters relationships with community organizations.
- Promotes opportunities for community engagement among students, faculty, and staff.
- Coordinates and promote student involvement in the annual state-wide Ivy Tech Days of Service event.
- Coordinate and promote student involvement in the annual state-wide Ivy Tech Day at the Statehouse.
Recreation and Wellness Responsibilities:
- Coordinates wellness related activities.
- Plans, markets, and implements recreation activities.
- Coordinates intramural program.
This position will travel between the South Bend and Elkhart campus to do student programming.
