The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As a Mechanical Simulation Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Develops and executes mechanical simulations to support medical product design and development
- Performs complex technical analysis, including numerical model development, non-linear material modeling, dynamic systems, failure analysis, structural integrity analysis, and damage analysis, data reduction, data plotting, and data visualization
- Collaborates and communicates with R&D and cross-functional teams to provide insights and ensure business needs are met
- Documents simulation workflows and results to meet commercialization and regulatory requirements
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution (verified prior to start) AND Five (5) years experience in mechanical simulations within the medical device industry
OR
- Master’s Degree or higher in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering or related discipline from an accredited institution (verified prior to start) with a focus on computational simulations AND Three (3) years experience in mechanical simulations within the medical device industry
OR
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution (verified prior to start) with a computational focus applied to healthcare applications
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

- Experience in mechanical simulations with a focus on medical device design, fatigue or fracture predictions, or other relevant failure mode analysis
- Experience with non-linear and rate-dependent material modeling
- Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and/or other numerical methods and common frameworks for developing these workflows (Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL, Matlab, Python)
- Proficiency with CAD and numerical grid generation techniques and applications (Solidworks preferred)
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to explain simulation workflows and results to non-experts
Work location:
- Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to Maplewood, MN at least 3 days per week)
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic and/or international
