Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire an Electric Equipment Installer/Repairer Lead Worker for The Office of Law Enforcement. This position will prepare vehicles for radio and emergency equipment installation, install firearm storage and test fitting for firearms, track equipment loaned out for repair or temporary use, provide guidance and training to assigned staff, and will perform minor painting when needed. Essential Functions
- Under direction, performs a variety of skilled tasks related to the installation, removal, and repair of radios and electronic emergency equipment in Agency vehicles, boats, and snowmobiles.
- Serves as designated lead worker.
- Designs, builds, fabricates, and mounts equipment for radios and emergency equipment using welder, saws, grinders, drill press and other shop equipment. .
- Obtains identification number for all equipment installed in vehicles.
- Maintains adequate stock of parts and accessories for outfitting vehicles to current police specifications.
- Cleans work area after installations.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school or technical school.
- Requires one year experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of radio and electronic equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of maintenance and repair of electronic equipment.
- Two (2) years of working knowledge of the principles of electronics.
- Two (2) years knowledge of power tools normally associated with wood and metal work.
- Two (2) years of experience reading wiring diagrams.
- Two (2) years of experience using tools and test equipment of the trade.
