About the role

Position Overview

The Founder’s College at Butler University seeks a full-time Lecturer who will be dedicated to teaching courses in the Youth and Community Advocacy curriculum. The Lecturer will be expected to offer quality instruction in and oversight of the College’s Youth and Community Advocacy curriculum.  Ideal candidates will demonstrate dedication to teaching and mentoring and will show interest in contributing to building an inclusive learning environment for an increasingly diverse student population.

Opening in the fall of 2025, Butler University’s Founder’s College will offer affordable, career-connected, two-year associate degrees in business management, youth and community advocacy, healthcare studies, and business data analytics. Indiana students for whom college was out of reach because of cost and who have demonstrated high ability to succeed in college will be prioritized for admittance.

Responsibilities

Faculty in the College will be dedicated full-time, 12-month Lecturers on renewable contracts, and will be focused on teaching, advising, and mentoring. Their teaching responsibilities will include 4 courses in the fall, 4 in the spring, and 2 in the summer. They will provide guidance and support to students pursuing specific degree pathways. The lecturers will coordinate with other staff teaching in the degree program, work with the Founder’s College CORE lecturer, collect and share data on program and students, and report directly to the Dean of the College.

We are seeking candidates whose previous work and life experiences prepare them to contribute to our commitment to support historically underrepresented and marginalized religious, racial-ethnic, national, and class groups. Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have earned a terminal degree from a regionally accredited college/university (though candidates with a master’s degree in a related field will be considered). Preferred qualifications include certifications related to classroom teaching, youth, advocacy or law and/or areas of expertise, and evidence of participation at a significant, active, and sustained level (leadership positions, committees, etc.) in discipline-appropriate and instruction related professional associations.

  • Transcripts from all accredited colleges or university attended (unofficial acceptable at this stage)
  • 1- or 2-page cover letter briefly outlining teaching interests and experience 
  • 1-page teaching philosophy
  • Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., syllabi and evaluations and/or course observation letters, if available)
  • A list of 3-5 references including name, title, and contact information. 

Publications/writings samples are welcome but not required. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to provide additional teaching materials. Final round candidates will need to provide official transcripts and will be asked to consent to background checks.
