The primary purpose of this position is to underwrite new business and renewals in a profitable manner and according to authority level and established guidelines, and drive projects having an impact on the business. Assigned larger, more important and more complex accounts. Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges. Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to properly transact business within each state. Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language; appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions. Assist with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers. Promotes the growth and development of less experienced underwriters and fosters teamwork.

Hybrid in Richmond. Remote available in Philadelphia, PA, Charlotte, NC and Nashville, TN.

The ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to cultivate new, productive relationships with producers within the Mid-Atlantic Region including SC, NC, TN, KY, VA, MD, DE, WV, & PA.

​What you'll be doing:

• Utilizes underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges;

• Understand state laws, including cancellation and non-renewal, within assigned territory to accurately transact business within each state;

• Knowledgeable in coverage forms and policy language;

• Appropriate utilization of forms and exclusions;

• Assistance with resolving premium audit disputes within assigned agents/brokers;

• Experience as a mentor and coach to colleagues and new team members

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree preferred;

• 2-3+ years' experience underwriting management liability coverages;

• Industry designations such as RPLU are a plus;

• Experience in wholesale distribution channel;

• Strong analytical skills including ability to analyze and understand policy language;

• Strong oral and written communication skills;

• Strong organizational skills with ability to manage competing priorities and timelines;

• Demonstrated sales and marketing skills including the ability to utilize data to organize efforts;

• Ability to coordinate efforts with support staff to maximize overall productivity;

• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel & Teams;

• Up to 25% travel.
