Job Description

This position serves in support of the US Air Force life support contract for Wake Island located in the Pacific.  The purpose of this position is to provide urgent care medical support to contracted and DOD personnel that are stationed on the Island. 

The Advanced EMT will utilize their knowledge and proficiency in evidenced-based medical practice and Intl.SOS protocols to manage unexpected and emergent situations and treat a variety of injuries and illnesses promptly and professionally. The Advanced EMT will serve as the first point of contact for patients being seen for their urgent care needs.  The Advanced EMT will also be responsible for clinic upkeep and support the physician.  She/ he will competently function as a member of the team to provide patient-based medical care on the project. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides 24/7 response for emergencies that require medical support on the island.
  • Provide medical care outside of the clinic during emergencies at the level of care of an NREMT Advanced EMT scope of practice. 
  • Receives patients at the clinic during regular business hours (8 am – 4 pm)
  • Assist medical providers with medical procedures and treatments as allowed within the licensed scope of work.
  • Assessment and documentation of the patient’s vital signs, chief complaint, medical history, and prescribed medications.
  • Report all changes in the patient’s condition to the medical provider.
  • Proactively and independently Advanced EMT-level care within the standing orders and SOPs without exceeding your licensed scope of care.,
  • Assist patients with basic care and activities of daily living, as needed.
  • Provides support and education to help patients make responsible health decisions.
  • Maintains clinic supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level and anticipating needed supplies.  Ordering supplies. 
  • Provide education to the client on First aid/ Emergency response as requested.
  • Participates in training exercises as required by the client.
  • Restocking when supplies are received and assisting other clinic operators with restocking.
  • Prepares patient for shipment to the USG IAW the contract.
  • Ensures that medical equipment is within required calibration timelines.
  • Serves as the property management user for the company’s property system.
  • Assist the physician with the coordination of medical evacuations as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to assess and treat adult patients in pre-hospital settings.  
  • Ability to successfully perform ALS interventions following protocols.
  • Ability to administer medication in adult patients in accordance with protocols.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Proficient IT skills including the use of electronic medical records systems.

  • Ability to function with accuracy and efficiency in high-pressure or emergent situations.  
  • Ability to respond calmly in emergencies.  
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness with the willingness to work with a foreign national patient population.       
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environ
