About the role

Industrial Hygienist, Mid

Key Role:

Provide technical and programmatic industrial hygiene (IH) support to Federal clients, including planning and conducting onsite compliance audits and inspections. Travel to CONUS and OCONUS client and contractor facilities to plan for, perform, and evaluate results of qualitative and quantitative IH exposure assessments, indoor air quality (IAQ) assessments, ergonomic assessments, and occupational safety and health (OSH) compliance inspections. Interview client personnel with OSH and related responsibilities, identify workplace characteristics and respective processes, hazards, and controls, and recommend mitigation measures. Develop sampling strategies, analyze results of sampling events, and enter results in client information management systems. Develop and deliver presentations to client facility leadership on audit findings and exposure assessment results and generate detailed technical reports, including findings and risk assessments for delivery to the client. Organize, schedule, and facilitate technical discussions and reviews on IH topics.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative exposure assessment, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) expanded standards, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, including lasers, IAQ, hazardous materials, hazard communication (HAZCOM), respiratory protection, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment (PPE), and ergonomics

  • Experience with IH guidance and technical requirements review and development

  • Experience with using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and environmental, safety and health information management systems for recording and analyzing IH data, including Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System (DOEHRS-IH), Cority, and Velocity EHS

  • Knowledge of OSH regulatory and consensus standards and guidance, including 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910, 1926, and 1960; American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Threshold Limit Values (TLVs), National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Recommended Exposure Limits (RELs), NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods (NMAM), and OSHA Technical Manual (TM)

  • Ability to research and apply quantitative assessment methods and review and assess control methodologies

  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively, problem-solve, and manage a diverse portfolio of projects

  • Ability to deliver training on IH, safety, and exposure science topics

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with technical and programmatic IH and OSH support to Federal clients

  • Experience in healthcare or laboratory environments

  • Experience with safety management systems, including International Organization for Standards [ISO] 45001, American National Standards Institute [ANSI] Z10, OSHA Voluntary Protection Program [VPP]), and OSH program auditing

  • Experience with OSH and IH database development and management

  • Experience with inhalation exposure model development and application

  • Experience with hazardous drug exposure assessments

  • Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards, including 10 CFR 20, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) 62.1, 62.2, and 241, and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 797 and 800

  • Ability to provide key performance indicator (KPI) data analysis and reporting

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Certification

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification
