Job Description

The Programme Manager leads a team of Project Managers and manages a portfolio of programmes and projects. The Programme Manager oversees and drives the execution and governance of the programmes/projects within her/his portfolio. The Programme Manager and her/his team are key strategic partners with the Executive Sponsors and Senior Project leads to develop the long-term programme’s strategic objectives and develop an effective roadmap to success. The Programme Manager ensures effective governance, and manages the programme level risk and issues to remove barriers, etc. The Programme Manager also plays an important advisory and leadership role with the programme’s executive sponsor, leadership team and Executive level steering committee, ensuring transparency and key messages are appropriate and targeted for the audiences.

As a key member of the PMO leadership team, the Programme Manager also supports the continuous improvement of the Project and Programme Management practices, provides thorough leadership to the organization on change execution/leadership, and helps to encourage and support the engagement of the overall PM team. The Programme Manager also has an important role as a people leader and coach to the project managers within the team and the wider MUFG community.

Leads a portfolio of large complex programme(s)/projects(s)

• Translates the project vision into programme high level scope, design and executables
• Facilitates and/or manages the gathering of business requirements for company-wide business and technology solutions
• Seeks out industry trends and organization knowledge to understand alternative approaches / solutions
• Ensures risk assessments are completed and that contingency plans are identified and executed
• Seeks input and prepares sub-portfolio / programme roadmap, project, and/or implementation plans aligned with executive approval
• Ensures alignment with enterprise-wide Business & IT Architecture
• Promotes innovative or improved methods to get the work done and implements best practices.
• Drives business value through creation of business case and associated benefit metrics

Champions strong programme governance and execution assurance processes

• Coaches project managers toward their development; including coaching project management best practices
• Establishes a process for the identification of programme/project issues. Resolves complex issues and escalates to executive/steering committee and manages resolution as required
• Responsible for the development of programme and project metrics including status reporting of KPIs
• Oversees the production of management documents
• Operationalizes governance & oversight of overall programmes
• Anticipates and quantifies tactical, operational and strategic risks applying risk-based approach to forecasting
• Provide thorough leadership on programme management and change leadership across the company
• Key member of the PMO leadership team providing SME expertise and change leadership across the organization

Manages overall programme financials and tracks value for effective decision making

•  Integrates project plans at programme level creating estimating models as required, refines plan and manages performance against it
• Facilitates schedule and cost forecasting and mentors project managers in determining risk-based provisions
• Manages programme scope using appropriate fact-based metrics/assumptions
• Defines KPI’s to report on benefit realization for tracking value and performance on business case
• Oversees the completion of post project reviews and closure in conjunction with project teams
