About the role

Job Description

Work Arrangement:

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, TX three times per week.

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team that is revolutionizing the automotive retail experience by building high-performance, customer-centric digital storefronts for GM's global vehicle commerce platform.

You will design and develop scalable, accessible, and reusable UI components using TypeScript, React/Next.js, and SolidJS web components, powering seamless vehicle configuration, option/packages selection, and build-and-price experiences across devices and markets. You'll work within a micro frontend architecture using a monorepo, contribute to our internal design system, and drive innovation through behavior analytics, accessibility best practices, and performance optimization.

A core focus of this role is Automation, AI Enablement, and Modernization — you will champion AI-assisted development practices, automate repetitive workflows, and continuously modernize the frontend stack to keep pace with evolving web standards and tooling.

This role requires strong technical depth in modern frontend engineering, a solid understanding of distributed and event-driven systems, and the ability to deliver high-quality, maintainable solutions at global scale. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and is committed to continuous learning and technical excellence.

Domain Focus — Configurator

  • Experience building complex, rule-driven UIs where user selections dynamically enable, disable, or constrain other options — handling dependency graphs, mutual exclusions, and package logic gracefully

  • Familiarity with real-time pricing engines — rendering dynamic pricing breakdowns, incentive calculations, and MSRP/invoice comparisons as users modify vehicle configurations

  • Strong understanding of complex state management for multi-step configuration flows — managing deeply nested state trees, undo/redo, session persistence, and shareable configuration

  • Ability to build guided, multi-step workflows with smooth transitions, progress tracking, and mobile-optimized step navigation

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

  • 6+ years of experience in frontend software development, with a proven track record in designing scalable component architectures

  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, React, and Next.js with deep understanding of modern frontend patterns (hooks, server components, SSR/SSG, ISR)

  • Hands-on experience with SolidJS or similar reactive frameworks, ideally building web components (Custom Elements) for modular, framework-agnostic delivery

  • Strong command of CSS/SASS/Tailwind CSS with experience implementing responsive, brand-themed designs across multiple markets

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and modern programming paradigms including micro frontends, component-driven development, and reactive programming

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor peers, and drive strategic decisions aligned with business goals

  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional teams (product, design, backend, DevOps)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and building reusable UI/Web component libraries and contributing to or consuming an enterprise design system

  • Expertise in accessibility programming (WCAG 2.x compliance) to meet regulatory standards and enhance user inclusivity across global markets

  • Proficiency in frontend testing and quality tooling — Vitest, Playwright, BrowserStack, or equivalent — including unit, integration, and end-to-end test automation

  • Experience with micro frontend architecture and modular build systems (Turborepo, Vite, Rollup) supporting independent deployable packages within a monorepo

  • Ability to leverage AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) throughout the SDLC to accelerate delivery
