Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager Health Services, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing professional practical nursing services to designated patients, including independent nursing services, administration of prescribed medical treatments, collaboration and interaction within the healthcare team and participation in the coordination of patient care and discharge. Demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience

  • One year of recent acute medical/surgical nursing experience is required.
  • Satisfactory employment record required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Graduate of an approved Licensed Practical Nursing Education program required.
  • This position is for nurses desiring to complete the Manitoba Nephrology Nursing Course:
    • Successful candidates will be required to enroll in the Manitoba Nephrology Nursing Course.
    • As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must complete a pre-study program and successfully complete an exam on the basis of the pre-study program.
    • The Manitoba Nephrology Nursing Course is a full-time nine-week training program with a period of theory, labs and clinical experience followed by 1008 hours (equivalent to 6-months full time) or work experience in dialysis.
    • Successful candidates will be responsible for payment of tuition for the program. Reimbursement for the program is available.
    • Applicants meeting posted qualifications will be assessed against the following criteria, as applicable to the position: education, experience, job related skills (clinical/knowledge, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, organizational, management, conflict resolution and knowledge of an Indigenous language, understanding of Indigenous customs, traditions and values), work record, professional development and seniority.
    • The successful applicant will be placed on a leave of absence while completing the educational requirements of this position. The probationary/trial period will begin following the leave of absence.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.

  • Knowledge of:
    • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
    • College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba Code of Ethics for Licensed Practical Nurses.
    • Scope of practice as documented in the Licensed Practical Nurses Act.
    • Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidel
