The Software organization develops software applications, including integration and test on missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control and other complex systems. Our precision software and firmware integrate operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control processing features to complete the mission. The Software org is made up of several Centers located across the country, responsible for all aspects of the software development lifecycle. The Senior Principal Software Engineer in the Multi-Mission department of the Software Engineering Directorate will support major Naval Power development programs. This individual needs to be a proven Real-Time Embedded Software Subject Matter Expert with a recent track record of successfully designing and developing flight software.
The successful candidate will be responsible for applying advanced technical expertise to reverse engineer legacy systems as well as developing C/C++ software for embedded multi-processor systems, contributing to the development of new principles and concepts, resolving unusually complex technical software problems, and providing innovative solutions. Follow or recommend changes to department processes and procedures, and review software products for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy. Share guidance to support junior staff. Develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into a final product. Utilize Agile software development methods for automation and continuous integration. Serve as a team spokesperson on advanced projects and programs. Act as advisor to management and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.
This position is within the Effectors Center of the Software organization, and is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do
- OBTAIN PROGRAM ACCESS
- Apply expertise in software development for embedded multi-processor systems.
- Provide innovative and creative software solutions to complex technical problems.
- Follow and/or recommend changes to established processes and procedures.
- Create new procedures in new program areas.
- Review software products for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy.
- Produce documentation related to software artifacts across the lifecycle including design documents, test procedures, how-to guides, and internal presentations.
- Communicate and collaborate with team members and senior engineers to produce well understood and repeatable results.
- Utilize agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration.
- Work onsite at the Tucson airport location.
- Ability to obtain program access required.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and 10+ years of engineering experience in software engineering.
- Experience developing, testing, integrating, and verifying real-time software.
- Experience with Assembly language, MMUs, High Speed Serial Buses and interrupt driven I/O
- Experience using embedded Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) (e.g., Green Hills, Integrity, Wind River VxWorks, Linux, etc.)
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
