Primary Purpose:

The Group Manager role has ownership of assigned accounts in Norfolk Southern’s International Intermodal marketing vertical. The position is responsible for executing departmental sales plans set by leadership to achieve maximum profitability, growth, and service for the assigned accounts.

Principal Duties:

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of the marketing, pricing, transportation, and distribution requirements of the Intermodal market while making necessary decisions to achieve optimum profit and market share levels.
  • Implements tactical plans with assigned customers to support strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Develops volume, pricing, and budgeting plans for select customers by leveraging industry intelligence, internal programs, and strategic approach to the market.
  • Manages strong and positive relationships with existing accounts in the International intermodal marketplace to gather critical industry intelligence that affects Norfolk Southern's competitive position.
  • Oversight of contracts, rate authorities and agreements tied to the accounts performance.
  • Facilitator of meetings and presentations with customers to drive NS objectives.
  • Strong communicator with ability to explain strategic NS initiatives and all significant matters relative to Norfolk Southern’s corporate strategy.
  • Works closely with customer logistics to support service challenges and troubleshoot issues when necessary.
  • Applies knowledge of operating practices, cost structures and corporate objectives in making decisions to achieve required goals.
  • Regular travel required to customer locations, conferences, internal events as necessary.

Job Related Experience:

Minimum Level:  3 years

Preferred Level:  3-7 years

Education:

Preferred Level:  Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS)

Preferred Majors: Business, Marketing, Economics, Communication

Technical Skils:

  •   MS Word/Word Processing
  •   MS Powerpoint/Presentations
  •   MS Excel/Spreadsheets
  •   MS Access/Database Development

Skills and Abilities:
