Job Description
The Utilities Engineering Summer Intern will support the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and project execution of utility systems at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role requires strict adherence to global policies, site procedures, and industry best practices.
The intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, manufacturing, automation, quality assurance, validation, reliability engineering, and project engineering. Under the guidance of the engineering team and supervision, the intern will apply engineering and management principles to:
Safely resolve process and equipment issues
Drive operational efficiencies
Maximize production output
Reduce waste
This is a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in a regulated manufacturing environment while contributing to critical utility systems that support pharmaceutical production.
How You Will Contribute:
With minimal supervision, support day-to-day operations of the site’s utility systems (hygienic utilities, plant utilities, HVAC systems, electrical systems, wastewater systems).
Investigate system upset events and provide technical expertise to resolve operational issues.
Analyze system data and proactively implement preventive actions to reduce system downtime.
Manage system documentation including creation, review, updates, and approval of technical specifications, operating procedures, and system drawings.
Support the planning and execution of projects by working in cross-functional teams as the utilities engineering representative.
Manage medium-scale projects – create user requirements, scope of work, risk assessments, justification, cost estimates and initate purchase order requisitions.
Assist in driving projects to completion and meet timeline and budget objectives.
Must be familiar with plant and divisional procedures as related to positional and department responsibilities and continuously stay current with assigned training to ensure compliance with quality and safety programs.
Demonstrate continuous improvement with respect to increasing job knowledge and proficiency related to technical understanding and problem-solving capability.
