Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Conducts inspections of septic systems and Aerobic Treatment Units.
- Conducts field inspections of regulated facilities.
- Issues enforcement action for non-compliant Aerobic Treatment Units
- Enforces septic system regulations.
- Responsible for all data entry of all inspections and other work completed.
- Reviews septic system applications.
- Writes and issues septic system permits.
- Uses bucket auger to dig 6-foot holes and profiles soil for color and texture.
- Conducts site evaluations for septic system suitability.
- Operates 4-wheel drive vehicles.
- Uses laser level, probe, measuring tape, lid puller, scaled ruler, and other tools.
- Participates in public education (individually, group setting, and phone calls).
- Attends training sessions, seminars, and meetings to obtain education on all environmental health regulations related to public health that are under the jurisdiction of the department.
- Investigates sanitary nuisance complaints.
- Protects Public Health.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science is required.
- Ability to use PC
- Use of general office equipment
- Use bucket auger to profile soils to a depth of 72", and ability to use field measuring devices.
- Ability to lift over 50 pounds.
- Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles a day.
- Ability to work in inclement weather including 95+ degree weather.
Qualifications:
Minimum –
- Have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science.
- Required to obtain certification for Onsite Sewage Treatment and Disposal Systems within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles a day in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work outside all day in all forms of weather.
- Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
- Must be proficient in computers, laptops, and Microsoft and other computer programs.
- Must carry a valid Driver’s license.
