JOB SUMMARY
As a member of the MBS Payroll Governance team, the Senior Manager, Payroll Accounting will be responsible for ensuring that the configuration, testing and maintenance of payroll accounting is completed timely and accurately. The Senior Manager will support the overall Marriott Internal payroll accounting and business processes to ensure we are in compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements (including to adhering to union contracts, MI Benefit & Absence Policies and SOX Controls).
The Senior Manager will oversee payroll accounting including configuration, payroll posting to the General Ledger and the testing plan for Oracle quarterly releases, JIRA defects, change requests/enhancements for the payroll costing model. They will maintain a control system environment where requirements are gathered, documented, reviewed, tested, and maintained for the payroll accounting process and integration to the Marriott General Ledger. The Senior Manager will collaborate with MI BPO providers to ensure they design, develop/build, test and maintain the payroll system in accordance with federal, state, local requirements, and MI standards (including but not limited to role security, configuration, integrations, extensions, UDTs, fast formulas and reporting).
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
Required
• Baccalaureate degree in Finance, Accounting, IT or related discipline required
• Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in payroll or accounting management.
• Advanced analytic skills and experience working with large data sets; high-level proficiency with Excel (vlookups and pivot tables)
Preferred
• Advanced Certification such as: CPA, CPP or PMP Desired
• Deep knowledge of Marriott GL & Accounting structure preferred.
CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
• Serve as the advanced technical/functional payroll accounting lead for the MBS Payroll Governance Team. With understanding of MI Payroll, Payroll Taxes, General Ledger, Account Reconciliations, Benefit and Absence Plans and the overall Oracle Solution.
• Gather and maintain payroll accounting configuration system requirements
• Assist with translating functional requirements into technical requirements
• Define test conditions
• Determine processing needs (data loads, interfaces, extensions, business processes and data monitoring/validation reports)
• Review mHUB Application Change Requests to determine potential impacts on Payroll Accounting. Participate in requirements, design, solutioning and testing phases. Monitor Progress, review testing validations and provide findings/updates to stakeholders.
• Lead the payroll accounting process to ensure our BPO partners are executing payroll accounting activities accurately, timely and in accordance with Marriott requirements.
• Provide support to Payroll, Payroll Tax and Benefits Accounting for financial reporting and account reconciliations.
• Work with Director of Payroll Systems to conduct business impact and cost benefit analysis in support of the decision-making processes related to change requests and enhancements.
• Ensure that potential issues are identified early, and Accounting, Payroll, Benefits and other key stakeholders are informed of the issue immediately. Assist with developing a communication plan to impacted stakeholders.
• Be instrumental in the development and implementation of strategies to improve financial and operational performance within the payroll accounting function.
• Participate in future cloud ERP discussions acting as the SME representative for mHUB Payroll.
• Work effectively with the cross functional teams such as Benefits, Absence Teams to ensure an accurate and world class payroll environment.
• Supports the onboarding of new units, and implementation of, or changes to elements, costing, fast formulas, integrations, extensions, and enhancements, ensuring testing is completed in a timely and effective manner.
• Contribute to the implementation of new business processes as they need to be documented and rolled out to the payroll user community.
• Partner with US managed DFA’s to support & improve mHUB costing reporting, and work through challenges and/or defects that arise.
• Serve as a resource for Tier 2 support as needed for payroll accounting specific questions escalated through SNOW or MRT.
• Contributes to achievement of team objectives and outcomes.
• Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
The salary range for this position is $98,500 to $155,600 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus.
