Adaptive Sports Instructor (76644)

Asphalt Green is looking to hire experienced Adaptive Sports Lead Instructor at our Brooklyn location, Major Owens Community Center. This position will run our signature class, Playground Pathways, which is an indoor stations-based class designed to develop gross motor skills and physical endurance for classic playground skills like jumping, running, sliding, swinging, etc. They will have the support of an Adaptive Coordinator and Assistant Adaptive Sports Instructor(s).

Schedule:

This is a seasonal role that will run from 9/20-12/20 on Saturdays from 11-30am - 2pm 

These classes are designed for neurodivergent and disabled youth, with a capacity of 6 kids in each class. The timeframe will cover two classes, ages 5-8 and 9-12, respectively. 

Responsibilities:

· Plans and delivers multi-sensory lessons and sessions that are appropriate for different ability levels

· Communicates expectations to students at the onset of each session

· Collaborates with group’s therapists and teachers to lead integrated sessions

· Establishes a safe learning environment creating structure and support during transitions

· Maintains clear class procedures and rules

· Provides consistent positive feedback to students throughout the session

· Knows and implements students’ behavioral goals

· Working with therapists and teachers, manages behaviors as they arise

· Documents behavioral situations and informs necessary parties

· Bachelor’s degree in related field (Special Education, Psychology, Adaptive Physical Education, etc.) OR Minimum 2 years’ teaching experience with school-aged disabled and neurodivergent populations

· Some multi-sport youth coaching experience a plus

· Experience with ECE (Early Childhood Education) a plus

· Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and/or DIR Floortime a plus

· Must have physical stamina and flexibility (walking, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, running, stretching, reaching, standing, sitting on the floor) to allow for full participation in activities and maintaining a clean and safe space.
