Responsible for planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of his/her training and expertise, collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes is met. This is done in conjunction with the objectives and policies of the hospital and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Tennessee.

Part-time, 24 hours/week, 7p-7a

Department Summary:

The Critical Care Unit, also known as the VBCH CCU is located on the 2nd floor at Vanderbilt Bedford County Hospital (VBCH).  This is an 8 bed unit and the typical Nurse to patient ratio is 1:2/3.

The environment on our unit is challenging, inclusive, and passionate about patient care.

We care for critically Ill adult patients ages 18 and above who are being treated for diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, congestive heart failure, acute respiratory distress, hypertensive crisis, ETOH withdrawal, drug overdose, and more.  

Our patients are unique because they consist of a wide variety of critically ill people which allows us to utilize our critical thinking and assessment skills to help each patient on the road to recovery.

One of the perks of working on our unit is the culture that Vanderbilt Bedford County Hospital has to offer. Because we are a smaller facility, all our co-workers are consistent and friendly faces.

Our nurses are successful because they have a passion for patient care, the ability to think critically and take executive action, and a wide array of critical care knowledge as their foundation for nursing.

We orient new nurses to our unit by providing individualized 1:1 training through our orientation process accompanied with continuous follow-up and communication regarding progress.
