ABOUT THE POSITION: 
As the Systems Test Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in helping Fluence deliver the next generation of energy storage technology through its suite of energy storage products.

As a System Test Lab Technician at Fluence, you will:

  • Responsible for the initial installation, commissioning and operation of battery energy storage systems.
  • Support hands-on testing of functionality and interoperation of battery energy storage system components (inverters, DC/DC converters, plant controls, battery systems, and balance of plant hardware) and integrated commercial and prototype systems.
  • Responsible for safe operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the systems and batteries.
  • Help program and administrate the local HMI.
  • Help improve deployment and commissioning processes by being an interface between product and project teams
  • Work with field engineers on rapid solutions to problems as they arise during commissioning/operation of BESS systems
  • Support IT/OT infrastructure like the onsite network, data acquisition server and Fluence Operating System
  • Assist in developing tests, standardized test procedures, and perform testing, including involvement in hands on lab testing during evaluations of prototype systems
  • Responsible for ensuring the technical availability of the lab, testing equipment, and modifications as required to meet requirements of testing criteria.
  • Responsible for assessing working conditions, identifying possible hazards, defining appropriate protective measures, selecting tailor-made work and equipment and coordinating work with others.
  • Organize, support, and carry out the mechanical and electrical design, testing, commissioning and repair of test configurations and prototypes of battery storage systems.
  • Occasionally work outside of normal work hours, if necessary, during periods of intense activity at the lab.
  • Assist in creating lab documentation, including safety protocols, lab-specific work procedures, and lab setup drawings

What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?

  • Passion for energy storage, collaborative engineering, and learning from others
  • Hands on experience with medium and high voltage AC and DC system 
  • Familiar with the NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
  • Knowledge of inverter and battery technology, electrical machines, control and control technology as well as basic knowledge of CAD.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as ModbusTCP, CANbus, or DNP3
  • Familiarity with Linux command line interface and operations
  • Familiarity with TCP/IP and Ethernet network architecture/engineering.
  • Experienced in using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio)
  • Positive attitude and high motivation and enthusiasm for new things – in the spirit of our company values.
  • Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent lab experience.
  • 3+ years industry experience, with background in renewable energy systems, power conversion, energy storage, PV, power systems control, or similar field.
