Job Summary:  

An Animal Enforcement Officer Supervisor oversees the collection of stray, dead and sick animals from the community and investigates animal complaints. Work of this class involves supervising Animal Enforcement Officers.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from an administrative superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed outdoors where the incumbents are exposed to such conditions as inclement weather and dead, diseased or dangerous animals. Work requires such physical exertion as bending and lifting and pulling small animals.

Minimum Qualifications:                             

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:  

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate. 

AND 

Experience: Have three years of experience in collecting stray, sick and dead animals and transporting them to an animal shelter.

OR 

Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a Baltimore City driver’s permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER’S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. 

NOTE: YOU MUST UPLOAD A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE WITH APPLICATION AT TIME OF APPLYING. 

NOTE: Applicants must be able to drive a vehicle with standard transmission.

NOTE: Incumbents in this class will be required to receive a pre-exposed rabies vaccination upon beginning employment and every two years thereafter.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of the techniques of collecting animals.
  • Skill in driving a vehicle with a standard transmission.
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and effectively.
  • Ability to write notices on animal violations.
  • Supervisory ability.

Additional Information 

Background Check                                        

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 

Probation 

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility 

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.                                                             

Education Accreditation 

Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
