The RCM-Manager of Insurance/Benefits Verification for the Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) (which includes the MSHS and the Faculty Practice Plan) assumes complete accountability/responsibility for the direction and management of the insurance/benefit verification teams and supports staff in all areas assigned during hours of operation. Oversees the day-to-day operations, which includes but is not limited to ensuring accuracy and completeness of registration, insurance, and guarantor information, as well as compliance with all regulations pertaining to the process. This role ensures that all team members are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to maximize revenue, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance the patient financial experience. Establishes a culture of service excellence, focusing on patient, provider and colleague satisfaction and engagement. Works collaboratively with clinical and provider staff to foster excellence in a manner that ensures patient quality and safety.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Excellence
- Needs Assessment and Gap Analysis: Conduct regular skills assessments to identify knowledge gaps and training priorities across teams and establish mechanisms for increased training and skill development.
- Regulatory Compliance: Proactively stay informed of and integrate all relevant federal, state, and payer-specific guidelines and compliance regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid) into all standard operating practices.
- Training: Assign, monitor, and collaborate on developing a variety of learning pathways, including online modules, hands-on workshops, and mentorship programs, to accommodate diverse learning styles and schedules.
- Performance Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor performance metrics and data to track productivity and performance against industry best practice benchmarks. Hold staff accountable to targeted performance / productivity.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong, collaborative relationships with RCM leaders, IT, finance, and clinical department heads to ensure alignment of operational performance and system-wide priorities.
- Team Leadership: Hire, train, mentor, and provide guidance to team(s), fostering a culture of continuous learning and subject-matter expertise.
- System Optimization: Work with RCM systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and IT teams to ensure standard work is aligned with system functionalities and to identify opportunities for workflow and performance improvements.
- Documentation and Reporting: Utilize all dashboards, reports and other materials to prepare reporting on team performance for senior leadership on activities, outcomes, and progress toward goals.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing RCM operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with clinical, operational, IT, and finance teams to align RCM initiatives with organizational goals.

Essential Functions of Position
- Maintain strong understanding of revenue cycle metrics and payers.
- Provide insight to processes to enhance analytical capabilities, process improvement identification, and technology enhancements.
- Maintain strong understanding of various system functionalities and lead team(s) in identifying and implementing improvements for performance, workflow, and cost-to-collect reduction.
- Build effective, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across departments.
- Resourceful in creating or fine-tuning the processes necessary to complete the work along with the ability to organize people and activities.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with revenue cycle leaders, key stakeholders, and foster a strong working relationship with key strategic partners.
- Provide leadership and guidance over processes that result in effective, efficient, standardized, and compliant practices.
