AVP Underwriting Manager - Group Captives

About the role

Zurich is currently looking for an AVP, Underwriting Manger to lead our Group Captives team of production Property and Casualty Underwriters! This position would be based in our Schaumburg IL headquarters. This is a hybrid opportunity between work-from-home and in-office time. You will be expected to travel (up to 50%) as necessary to support the needs of the team and to cultivate key captive consultant, broker, and customer relationships. This is a critical role in driving further growth within the Group Captives business as well as an engaging and inclusive team culture.

 

Responsibilities will include the following:

 

  • Manage market facing underwriters who proactively work with captive consultant partners on the successful renewal of the existing book and in the review of new submission opportunities.
  • Identifies new growth opportunities with key distributors for areas of responsibility.
  • Provide continuous coaching.
  • Mentor staff to develop strong captive consultant, broker and customer networks as related to industries underwritten by the Group Captives team.
  • Identify portfolio trends and coverage exposures that may impact profitable business results. Work closely with actuarial to ensure a proper price structure as it relates to captive renewals and new business submissions.
  • Manage relationships with key partners by conducting line of business, book of business, class and segment analysis to ensure profitability and growth.
  • Actively and periodically review portfolio of business against metrics of profit, growth and trends to recommend and implement action plans.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
  • Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • 2 or more years of management experience
     

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong underwriting acumen of Group Captives
  • CPCU
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent skills in relationship building
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Results oriented
  • Excellent negotiation skills
