QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST

The Quality Assurance Specialist position at SpaceX sits within the NDE Engineering organization reporting to the Lead NDE Engineer, NDE Engineering Manager, or Principal Level III. You will be required to interface across multiple business groups to ensure compliance and reliability of the ground systems equipment across all sites.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create/revise business processes that align with fabrication, design and inspection of GSE
  • Audit implementation of businesses processes that apply to the fabrication of GSE, and engage stakeholders on actions
  • Provide vendor surveillance for vendors that fabricate structures for SpaceX and training to new QA inspectors performing Vendor Surveillance
  • Work with Level III to ensure NDE procedures and certifications align with applicable codes
  • Audit NDE processes and communicate findings as required
  • Process, create, and document necessary welding procedures for the fabrication team, and audit QC and welding’s compliance to applicable procedures
  • Create and implement training for various groups including QC team, welders, and engineering
  • Onboard new GSE vendors
  • Ensure welder qualification compliance with code and SpaceX internal procedures

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Current American Welding Society certified welding inspector (CWI)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • ASME Section V, VIII Division 1 and 2, and API 510 experience
  • Working knowledge of surface and subsurface NDE methodologies
  • NDE qualifications in PT, MT, VT, UT, and PAUT
  • Experience auditing welding and NDE processes

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel up to 75% of the time
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run
  • Willingness to work overtime hours and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:      

Pay range:
Quality Assurance Specialist/Level 3: $33.00 - $44.75/hour
Quality Assurance Specialist/Level 4: $38.00 - $51.50/hour    
Quality Assurance Specialist/Level 5: $43.00 - $58.25/hour
 
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
