Summary

Prepares simple stains, solutions, and culture media, and performs waived and moderately complex laboratory tests according to CLIA certificate.  Maintains specimen records and performs venipuncture as requested by directing physician.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Skilled in performing venipuncture as acquired through requisite education/training/experience.
• Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations as acquired through requisite education.
• Ability to communicate verbally with associates, patients, and physicians.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Performs blood collection, waived, and moderately complex lab testing according to CLIA certificate.
• Maintains supply inventory and performs preventive maintenance on equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Invasive and non-invasive patient contact throughout the shift.
• Exposure to patient body fluids.
• Must be able to react quickly in emergency situations.
• Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 lbs. periodically throughout the shift.
• Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, squat and kneel periodically throughout shift.
• Must be able to reach, bend, and twist periodically throughout shift.
• Must have good balance and coordination.
• Use of hands for gripping and squeezing, as well as repetitive hand to wrist motion.

• Must have good hand-eye coordination.

• Normal eye-motor coordination, manual dexterity and visual perception.
