Assistant Dean, Student Success

The Assistant Dean, Student Success provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for integrated, holistic student success, engagement, and wellness initiatives that support the undergraduate and graduate student experience at UNH Manchester. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Professional Studies, this position leads campus-wide retention and early intervention efforts, oversees academic advising and student engagement functions, and uses data-informed strategies to improve student persistence, retention, and graduation outcomes. The Assistant Dean also serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the Manchester campus.
Duties/Responsibilities
Supervision and Leadership
Provide direct supervision and strategic leadership for the Offices of Academic Advising and Student and Community Engagement.
Provide functional oversight for student success-related initiatives, programs, and partnerships, including transitional courses and academic support services.
Maintain a dotted-line supervisory relationship with the Disability Specialist assigned to UNH Manchester.
Serve as conduct and housing back-up for the Director of Student Affairs as needed.
Oversee the budgets for the Office of Student and Community Engagement, Academic Advising, Student Activities, New Student Orientation, UNH Manchester Food Pantry, Mental Health Services, and Assistant Dean of Student Success.
Student Success, Retention, and Early Intervention
Lead campus-wide retention and early intervention initiatives, including early alert, at-risk coaching, conditional admit support, and FirstGen Forward.
Use student success and retention data to assess, implement, and refine initiatives that support persistence and graduation across the student lifecycle.
Collaborate with academic departments, enrollment management, and student support units to align retention strategies and improve student outcomes.
Academic Advising, Policy, and Monitoring
Guide the design, assessment, and continuous improvement of student-centered, high-impact advising strategies that support student success, retention, and graduation.
Oversee the academic monitoring process for UNH Manchester, including warning, exclusion, suspension, and dismissal decisions.
Evaluate internal Petitions for Variance in Academic Policy for UNH Manchester undergraduate students.
Review and make decisions on readmission applications and reactivations from leave of absence or suspension.

Transition Programs and First-Year Experience
Provide leadership for new student transition courses, including First Year Seminar and Transfer Seminar.
Develop and align course curricula with institutional learning outcomes, college priorities, and student success initiatives.
Evaluate the effectiveness of transition programs and collaborate with key stakeholders to implement improvements.
Collaborate with other UNH colleges to align core themes and outcomes across transitional courses.
Recruit, train, support, and evaluate First Year Seminar and Transfer Seminar instructors.
Coordinate peer support models for transitional courses and facilitate student connections to academic and student support services.
Tutoring and Academic Support Services (Knack Tutoring)
Manage UNH Manchester’s partnership with Knack Tutoring.
Collaborate with UNH Durham to coordinate and expand tutoring options across campuses.
Meet regularly with Knack representatives to review tutor performance, utilization, and program effectiveness. Partner with Manchester faculty to promote tutoring utilization and assess academic support needs.
Data, Assessment, and Scheduling
Collect, analyze, and report data related to undergraduate registration, retention, graduation rates, advising, and academic support services.
Use data to support strategic decisions related to course offerings, faculty assignments, and academic resource allocation.
Collaborate with the UNH Data department to develop data requests and conduct additional analyses related to student success and curriculum planning.
