About the role

Job Description:

The Pharmacy Technician demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in the execution of appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care. This position participates in many procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or technician supervisor and is an integral part of the pharmacy team.

Pediatric Transplant Pharmacy Tech at our Salt Lake Primary Children's Hospital. This position will work Monday – Friday. Hours: 8-16:30pm. No weekends or holidays. 8 paid holidays according to Intermountain Health holiday rotating schedule.

Scope
This position supports Pharmacy Services in Community-Based Care and Specialty-Based Care locations.

Job Essentials

  • Provides customer service to patients, pharmacists, pharmacy students, pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals in the areas of responsibility.
  • Communicates with caregivers regarding responsibilities and identified concerns.
  • Is competent and effective in technical responsibilities assigned and seeks appropriate training and peer feedback on routine responsibilities.
  • Understands and complies with state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures, and guidelines related to their specific area of practice.
  • Participates in and supports financial responsibilities of the department, facility, and Intermountain Healthcare.
  • Provides delivery of medications, information, and service in a professional, timely manner and is actively engaged in department and team goals, activities, and projects.
  • Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s), and clearly understands when a pharmacist is required to verify tasks and activities .
  • Participates in quality improvement activities and seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.
  • Delivers detail-oriented, consistent, and flexible care.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Current pharmacy technician license in state of practice.
  • Current knowledge of state and federal regulations and statutes regarding the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of approved drugs, controlled substances, and investigational agents.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the area of practice.
  • Advanced tech with Intermountain
  • Advanced tech certification through PTCB
  • Strong background in retail pharmacy, preferably using EnterpriseRx
  • Certification to immunize, or willing to get certification
  • Experience with prior authorizations & appeals
  • Experience with EMR (iCentra and/or EPIC)

This position will:

  • Complete medication reconciliation for patients in transplant and dialysis clinics.
  • Identify insurance coverage of prescription medications for transplant-related medications, including barriers, such as cost, specialty pharmacy, or prior authorization.
  • Identify and address medication access issues for transplant & dialysis patients-Intermountain patient assistance, savings cards, etc.
  • Identify and address barriers to adherence for transplant & dialysis patients.
  • Coordinate refills via EnterpriseRx for 200+ transplant & dialysis patients to ensure medication compliance & access – preventing transplant organ rejection and failure.
  • Screen transplant & dialysis patients for routine & transplant-specific vaccine recommendations under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Administer vaccines to transplant & dialysis patients in clinic under the supervision of a pharmacist.
    • This will include BLS training, with quarterly reviews via RQI
  • Track immunizations for transplant & dialysis patients.
  • Assist with updating Med Action Plan & iCentra to include updated medication lists for transplant & dialysis patients.

Carrying, hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing.
