About Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science

The Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science is a community of people committed to tackling some of the world's biggest challenges. Cornell Bowers CIS is home to the three academic departments: Computer Science, Information Science, and Statistics and Data Science, and it pushes boundaries in the information age through its commitment to both developing state-of-the-art computing and information technologies, and in studying and understanding the societal and human impact of these technologies.

Cornell Bowers CIS is responding to tremendous growth in student interest by investing heavily to increase its faculty—with a goal to increase by 50% over the next few years, as well as increasing its staff infrastructure, including its financial teams. Growth will allow the college to foster research excellence, expand critical and emerging fields, and increase opportunities for cross-disciplinary and university-wide collaboration. The college’s Sponsored Research Administration Center (SRAC) delivers pre and post award research management and planning support to Principal Investigators (PI) conducting interdisciplinary research ($20M annual sponsored, faculty gifts and discretionary funds out of $80M central/dept budget total). The typical Cornell Bowers CIS PI research profile is collaborative and multi-sponsored, and the college’s faculty are world leaders whose research is expanding fields of inquiry, developing core technologies, and examining the societal, sustainability, and ethical implications of technological innovation.

The Information Technology Service Group provides administrative, faculty, and research IT assistance to the College of Engineering, Computing and Information Science, and Cornell Tech in partnership with Cornell’s Central IT unit. Members of this team work collaboratively to provide Applications and Reporting, Infrastructure, Instructional, Desktop, Network, Research, Security, Audio Visual, and Web support.
