Position Overview
We’re looking for a Managing Editor to oversee the operations of Remilia Quarterly, a print publication specializing in new net art criticism and online literature. You’ll work closely with our Chief Editor to ensure high quality standards in the production of the magazine, from both an editorial and product perspective. You’ll manage the day-to-day operations of the magazine which will include writer outreach, content curation, working with printers and designers, and overseeing the distribution. An ideal candidate should be both highly organized and comfortable with project management, but also have some familiarity with both the art world and online culture.
Core Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of Remilia Quarterly
Perform outreach to writers and artists to maintain a high curatorial standard
Manage the release of Remilia Quarterly on a regular and consistent basis
Perform editorial duties such as writer feedback, proofreading, conducting interviews,
and copywriting
Coordinate the printing and distribution of the magazine with our printing partners
Assist with other editing and print publication projects throughout the company
Required Qualifications
3+ years of editorial or art world experience
Strong background in arts, culture, or technology writing
Excellent editing and writing skills
Experience managing editorial workflows
Understanding of both print and digital publishing
Strong organizational abilities
Excellence in written communication
Familiarity with online culture
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience managing and releasing literary publications
Deep knowledge of online culture and new net art
Experience with the design of print publications
Intuitive sense of the dynamics in contemporary art and the cutting edge
Knowledge or experience in technology writing
Knowledge or experience with philosophy or critical theory
Experience managing artists and other non-traditional workers
A bachelor’s or master’s of fine arts degree
Location
Full-time in-person in Orange County preferred. Hybrid a possibility for the right
candidate still located in Southern California.
